Linköping’s new city library was opened in 2000. Built in light woods with large windows and generous space the library has become a popular meeting place for many Linköping inhabitants and tourists.
The tourist office is also located in the library. This comfortable environment offers a wide selection of books, newspapers and magazines, music or film DVD’s or CD’s and the data base is accessible using mobile internet network which makes it possible to connect your own computer.
The unique diocesan library contains almost a quarter of a million handwritten documents and books from the medieval period and later. In the curiosa cabinet are a collection of strange objects which have been donated to the library during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Many children have enjoyed story telling in the Story cave. The café Galejan serves coffee or light refreshments overlooking the beautiful castle parks and grounds. Many artists from Östgötland have their work on display in the library which also holds well-equipped conference facilities of various sizes.
Besides the main city library there are a number of smaller branches as well as a book bus which stops at 46 bus stops.
