For more information about the history of Linköping visit any of the city’s museums. The outdoor museum called Gamla Linköping which means Old Linköping comprises of 80 or so buildings which have been moved to this location from all parts of the municipality.
Malmslätt is the home of Sweden’s only Air Force Museum with examples of almost all Swedish aircraft and information on aviation history from early 20th century to present day. In 2000 the Castle and Cathedral museum (Slotts and Domkyrkan) was opened and shows the history of both these buildings. There are many art treasures on display in the Cathedral but the county museum, Östergötlands länsmuseum has even more. The museum’s art exhibition is deemed one of the finest in the country, there is also an exhibition of the history of the county.
Modern art is also on display in a number of galleries as well as PASSAGEN, Linköping’s art gallery located beside Stora Torget. The art gallery is located in the beautiful Centralpalatset as is Ateljé Passagen for children and young people which is also part of Linköping’s Kulturskolan.
