For many, sports activities in Linköping are associated with LHC – Linköping Hockey Club. The hockey team plays in the elite hockey league and in an arena called Cloetta Center. Other major sports in Linköping include swimming, riding and women’s football.
The municipality also offers unusual sports facilities for example the Fun Skate Park in Ekholmen which has outdoor skate boarding and in-line facilities and at Hangaren Hot Sport Center located in Ryd which has a skating arena and various climbing walls.
Stångebrofältet is where Cloetta Center is located which is LHC‘s home arena where 8.500 people can watch the home team play ice hockey. This makes Cloetta Center the third largest arena in Sweden after Globen in Stockholm and Svandinavium in Gothenburg. The arena is not only used for ice hockey but also hosts other events such as concerts, sport activities and much more.
Women’s football has quickly become popular in Linköping with the local team, LFC, attracting an audience of almost 6,000 people at the Folkungavallen arena during its first year. The Fun Skate Park located in Ekholmen is the largest such park in Scandinavia. The technical name for such facilities is Streetpark and in Sweden this means that it is emulating different street environments. The surface comprises of precision cast concrete. The park offers ramp like pipes with soft-rounded forms, pyramid obstacles, steps and low rails.
The Hangaren Hot Sport Center in Ryd offers indoor skateboarding facilities as well as climbing walls, trampoline jumping and a café.
