Much has been invested in environmentally friendly public transport. For example all the 60 inner city buses now run on biogas derived from such sources as waste from the meat industry and other waste products from industries.
Biogas is produced by Svensk Biogas AB which is owned by the municipally owned company Tekniska Verken. 8 million journeys a year are provided by inner city buses and also a number of taxis in Linköping are run on biogas.
