AB Östgötatrafiken is responsible for public transport within the county of Östergötland and they offer good communications within the whole region including commuter trains and express buses as well as normal bus services.
Good commuter services
Every year almost 4,500 Linköping inhabitants commute to workplaces in other parts of the county, more than double that number, almost 10 500 commute to work in Linköping. These figures are taken from the latest inventory carried out in 2002.
Östgötatrafiken offer single tickets, day passes and monthly passes. Tickets can be purchased at Östgötatrafiken's sales outlets or onboard the trains. However you are not able to buy tickets on board inner city buses. Tickets must be purcharsed before boarding the bus. You can however by tickets via you mobile phone. Travel centre is the hub
Commuter trains, inner city and suburban buses depart from the Resecentrum which is the travel centre near the railway station. Services to other destinations in Sweden also depart from this centre.
The X2000 express trains cover the distance from Linköping to Stockholm in about 90 minutes and the journey from Linköping to Malmö-Kastrup-Copenhagen takes about 3 hours.
All intercity, regional and long distance trains also depart from Resecentrum. Long term parking facilities are located beside Stångån on the western side and connected by a pedestrian tunnel to the station. There is also a large cycle parking area located at the station which includes a total of 10 long and short term garaged cycle parking spaces for rental.
